Stanley “Stan” Henry Soucek, 74, of Washington, died Monday, May 15, 2017, following a brief battle with cancer.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Soucek was born Aug. 18, 1942, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, the son of Henry Soucek and Victory (Ptak) Soucek.

He was raised in Washington and graduated from Washington High School. After graduating from high school, he served in the Air Force for six years. He was a longtime employee of Northrup King/Syngenta, and retired after working there for more than 30 years. He was known as a loving father and grandfather and was a great friend to many. He had a quick wit and could always tell a joke or a story to get people to smile. He had a love for music and theater, and participated in many Washington Community Theater plays over the years. He also was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing.

Surviving are one daughter, Lindsay Mayer and husband Josh of Washington; two grandchildren; his stepmother Dorothy Soucek; two brothers, Jan Sedlacek, and Karel Sedlacek; four sisters, Jean Gloyer, Suzanne Riley, Marie Sedlacek, and Victory Sedlacek; one sister-in-law, Gerry Cosby Soucek; and one niece.

He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Soucekr; his mother, Victory Ptak Sedlacek; his stepfather, Karel Sedlacek; his stepmother Laurie Soucek; and one brother, Steven Soucek.
