Storm causes accidents, outages

According to the Washington County call log, the winter storm that blew through Washington County Saturday morning caused several accidents as well as downed power lines throughout the county.

According to the log, the safety center received multiple reports of downed power lines at 1724 Ginkgo Avenue in Wellman. An officer, Wellman Fire Department and Alliant Energy responded. A power line was also reported down by the Washington County Courthouse at 222 W. Main St. in Washington. Alliant was notified.

A vehicle reportedly went into the ditch at Highway 92 and Ginkgo Avenue in West Chester at 8:22 a.m. Saturday. An officer reported being out with a vehicle in the ditch at Spruce Avenue in Washington. No one was around. A vehicle was reported in the median on Highway 218 and 240th Street in Ainsworth at 9:37 a.m. A vehicle was reported in the Highway 218 median at Highway 22 in Riverside at 10:15 a.m.

Two vehicles were reported in the ditch at 2649 Wayland Road in Washington at 10:32 a.m. Offricers responded. Israel Jimenez Valenzuela of Washington was cited for failure to maintain control and no insurance accident related. A Chevron sign was damaged. The vehicles were towed.

A semi reportedly slid into the ditch at Highway 218 and 230th Street in Ainsworth at 10:45 a.m. The Iowa State Patrol responded. Another caller reported being stuck in the ditch at 2593 Highway 1 in Washington. On officer responded. The vehicle was towed. A disabled vehicle was reported at 11:12 a.m. at Washington Street and South Street in Kalona. On officer contacted the owner.

A calelr reported hitting the side of a bridge at 3340 Wayland Road in Mount Pleasant at 12:29 p.m. No injuries were reported. An officer responded. The vehicle was moved into a driveway. over $1,500 damage was reported.
