Summer camp registration now open

The Washington County Extension Office has 23 individual day camp opportunities called Clover University for PreK through middle school youth. The camps are being offered this year in Ainsworth, Riverside, Kalona, Keota and Washington. Registration forms will be out in the schools after April 13.

“Ramp up with Robotics” is a three-day camp for youth who just completed foruth to sixth grade as of June 2018. This camp will be offered June 25-27 in the basement of Dallmeyer Hall located on the Washington County Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Learn how to build and program Lego NXT Robots. Find out how to use sensors and program robots to meet a series of challenges. Compete with new friends and bots each day. Beverage and snacks will be provided, but campers will need to bring a sack lunch each day. Camp is limited for first 12 registered.

“Babysitting Basics” is a weeklong course to teach the responsibilities of a babysitter, what employers expect, caring for infants and toddlers, age-appropriate toys, how to handle emergencies and basic first aid. Two sessions are being offered at the Washington County Extension Office June 11-June 15 from 2 – 4 p.m. or July 30-Aug. 3 from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. This camp is open to youth who have completed fifth grade. Participants will receive a babysitting starter bag full of goodies.

Space is limited to 25 registrations for each camp. Registration materials were sent home through the schools April 13 and are also available on the Extension website http://www.extension.iastate.edu/washington. Registrations are due June 1 but will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. There is a fee for each camp. Scholarships are available upon request. Make payments to Washington County Extension Office.
