It was “take two” for the Washington County Board of Supervisors Tuesday as the board held a public hearing on the release of an easement of property in Keota to Vision AG LLC in exchange for land that has become the Kewash Trailhead then quickly approved the motion.

While it was the second such hearing in as many weeks, no comments from the public were received. During the previous meeting the supervisors held the public hearing because it was on the agenda, however, the Washington County Conservation Board had not approved the motion at the time, meaning the issue would have to come back to the supervisors. County attorney John Gish recommended holding the second hearing before discussion.

“This took place last year too,” Gish told the supervisors. “The Kewash trailhead is currently split in half. Last year the supervisors agreed to release part of the easement because the easement itself is 100 feet wide. The whole goal of this is to reroute the Kewash Trail. Instead of going between the two ag businesses (Vision AG and FCA) the trailhead diverts south and around.”

Gish said there is no money changing hands from the arrangement, but it is being done because it is beneficial to all concerned. He said the new trail is safer because it does not go between two businesses. He also said Keota has worked on the new trailhead, creating a pavilion.

Since the property being released was controlled by Washington County Conservation, the conservation board had to adopt a resolution before the supervisors considered the resolution.
