Supervisors to discuss building

In July, the county closed on the property located at 302 West Main Street in Washington.

They bought the building from the Goff family, who proposed selling it to the county for $50,000, as reported in The Journal.

In October, the county sent a Request For Proposal (RFP) for asbestos abatement and demolition of the property, which is on the agenda for Tuesday’s supervisors meeting.

However, no RFPs were returned to the county for the asbestos abatement and demolition of the residential property, Washington County auditor Dan Widmer said.

“This will be a point of discussion tomorrow,” Widmer said. “We’ll have to decide what we’ll want to do from here.”

In the RFP, the county combined the asbestos abatement and the demolition of the residential property, he said. They also asked for the work to be completed by Dec. 31.

“Maybe that’s why we didn’t get any bids back,” Widmer said. “I did have one person look into the RFP but when he saw the completion date of Dec. 31 he said they couldn’t get it done by then and didn’t pick up the RFP.”

Widmer said the county may have to look into separating the asbestos abatement from the demolition of the building at Tuesday’s supervisors meeting.

“Before we raze the building the asbestos has to be abated,” he added.

This is work the county isn’t qualified to do, so it will need an outside contractor to abate the asbestos and do the building demolition, Widmer added.
