The Power of God’s Word

By Pastor Jim Cluney, First Assembly of God | Oct 18, 2012

We find in Matthew 4:4 the account of Jesus himself being tested by Satan. Each time Satan threw something at him, Jesus would refer to God’s Word and would declare, “For it is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” Several times we see in the Bible those words, or similar to them the words, “It is written.” There is power in the Word of God! But, do we use that power in our life?

If you have ever purchased a new car and the salesperson hands you the keys to that car and says, “Here, drive it home,” you get such a surge or rush. As you stick that key into the ignition and turn it, the powerful battery sends its energy through the cables to the engine. The fuel pump sends gas to the engine and the drive train screams out, “Let’s go!” But if you don’t put the key in and turn it, you’re not going anywhere.

The Word of God is like this example in the fact that God has given us everything at our access. He has given us the power to defeat our enemies. He has given us everything to supply all our needs according to His riches in heaven. He has given the power of His Spirit for wisdom and direction within our lives. The only problem is, oftentimes we don’t take advantage of it. Therefore, “We are not going anywhere!”

To take advantage of the power in God’s Word we must read it for understanding. We must believe it to release its power in our life. We must act on it to put it to use. What are we waiting for? We have the keys; go for it!
