Three area players earn IGCA all-district accolades

Three area players were honored when the Iowa Girls’ Coaches Association all-district girls’ basketball teams were released recently.

Mid-Prairie’s Mariah Swartzentruber was selected to the Class 3A Southeast District squad after helping the Golden Hawks reach the state tournament for the first time since 2004. Swartzentruber, one of nine seniors on the Mid-Prairie roster this season, led the Golden Hawks in scoring with 10.2 points per game. The 5-foot-8 forward also led Mid-Prairie in rebounding (6.2 per game), blocked shots (25) and made 3-point goals (33). She was a first team All-Cedar Valley Conference selection this season.

Danielle Moore and Kate Fennelly of Class 3A state champion Davenport Assumption, Andrea Larson and Heidi Hillyard of Mediapolis, Williamsburg’s Paige Greiner, Central Lee’s Traci Keller, Northeast Goose Lake’s Adelida Oberman, Davis County’s Rylee Eakins and West Liberty’s Kristi Feldman join Swartzentruber on the 3A Southeast District team. Mediapolis head coach Todd Rogers was named the district’s Coach of the Year.

Juniors Kelsi Sieren of Keota and Olivia Yutzy of IMS were both selected to the Class 1A Southeast District squad.

Sieren, a 5-foot-7 forward, averaged nearly a double-double this season for Keota, which finished 15-9 overall. She scored 10.9 points per game and grabbed 8.2 rebounds per contest to lead the Eagles in both statistical categories. She also led her team in steals, coming up with 81 thefts on the season.

Yutzy, a 5-foot-8 forward, also led her team in both scoring and rebounding this season. She averaged 13.1 points and 6.2 rebounds per game for IMS, which finished 8-14 overall after bowing out of the postseason with a loss to Sieren’s Eagles. Yutzy, a first team All-Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division selection, also blocked a team-high 24 shots and came up with 51 steals this season.

Morgan Myers and Taylor Hickey of Burlington-Notre Dame, Belle Plaine’s Kameo Pope, BGM’s Kayleen Beck, Winfield-Mt. Union’s Cassie Kingery, New London’s Morgan Christner, English Valleys’ Lauren Miller and Lone Tree’s Madelyn Flemr join Sieren and Yutzy on the 1A Southeast District squad. Burlington-Notre Dame head coach Kollin Alfred was named the district’s Coach of the Year.
