The River Valley Conference has released its baseball coaches’ selections for all-conference, all-division and honorable mention.

The conference selects an elite team and honorable mention from both the North and South Divisions, then a division team for each.

The elite team had athletes from just five conference teams.

Mid-Prairie High School was represented by Brad Tornow, a sophomore, on the South Division team. He was selected as an outfielder.

Tornow led the Golden Hawks with a .303 batting average, a .448 on-base percentage, and a .395 slugging percentage. He hit three doubles and two triples, batted in 11 runs, drew 20 walks and stole 10 bases in 11 attempts. He made just two errors for a .973 fielding percentage.

Tornow also pitched for Mid-Prairie. He had a 4-4 record in 10 starts and four other apperances with a 1.69 earned run average. He struck out 70 while walking 27 in 45 2/3 innings pitched. Opponents batted .165 against him.

The Golden Hawks’ Rex Peck was an honorable mention pick.

Peck hit three doubles, a triple and batted in seven runs. He had a .314 OBP. As the catcher, he threw out 11 runners attempting to steal.

The Golden Hawks finished fourth in the South Division with a league mark of 8-10. They were 12-16 overall.

Iowa City Regina and Wilton finished first and second, respectively, in the South. Wilton made it to the state semifinals in Class 2A while Regina played for the title.
