Tour of Homes planned for December

Nov 21, 2017

By David Hotle, The JOURNAL

for the 27th year, the Washington Chamber of Commerce is offering people the opportunity to get an inside look at some of the nicest homes in Washington as the annual Tour of Homes will be held Dec. 2 and 3.

Attendees will tour four homes beautifully decorated for the holidays plus get a special sneak peek at Dodici Suites and free Refreshments and Photo Booth at Dodici Shop & Patricia’s Room. Proceeds from the tour go toward Washington’s holiday lighting. Homes this year include: Jake and Erin Thorius: 2190 Waters Way (Waters Edge); Jeff Talbot and Mackenzie Murphy: 522 W. Washington Boulevard; Eric and Kathy Williams: 1000 S. 12th Ave.; and Dwight and Nancy Sutton: 727 S. Iowa Ave.

“It is going to be another great year,” chamber director Michelle Redlinger said. “We have four homes with a lot of great variety. We have a newer home and an old Victorian on the Boulevard. We have another newer home off 12th Avenue and the Suttons on South Iowa have an older home, built in the early 1900, but they have completely transformed the house into a cabin on the inside.”

Redlinger also said the homes showcase architecture as well as people who decorate with family and have been collecting Christmas decorations for 40 years. She said each piece of decoration will have a story to go with it.

Additionally, the tour is offering a special look at the night suites at Dodici’s shop. Redlinger said this is a chance for people who have not had the chance to see the suites to find out what has been going on up in the second level. She said a refreshment retreat would be available in the shop. The photo booth is also free.

Redlinger said she hasn’t had a chance to preview all the homes and is excited to attend a special preview tour this Sunday.

“I think the tour will offer a lot for a lot of people,” Redlinger said. “It’s a great kickoff to the holidays. It gets everyone in the holiday spirit. We are so thankful to the homeowners who do this because they open their homes to a lot of the community and they are the reason why we are able to raise the funds. Whether you are attending because you are considering doing a remodel or purchasing a home or just enjoy seeing holiday decorations, there is a lot of benefit. We are just inviting you to come out and share the holidays with us.”

The Chamber also needs a few more volunteers to help with the Tour of Homes. Volunteers will get a free ticket to the event for volunteering. For more information call 653-3272.
