Tuesday Coffee Club

Sep 11, 2018

August 7th Joan Leyden was hostess to  eleven members and one guest to  Tuesday Coffee club.  Members met at The Bistro for a 11:30 luncheon.

Three tables were set up in the Game Room making it enjoyable to share and  visit with our group.

Charlotte Magdefrau brought a pretty get well card she had made and members signed it  with a greeting for one of our members unable to attend.  Cucumbers were brought to share with the gardens being plentiful this season.  Tomatoes seemed to be a favorite of several members as well as sweet corn.

A bit of  history from Washington County and The Courthouse I found interesting in one of my Dad’s books that I now have, states  that in 185l   Lyman Whitcomb was paid $10.00 to make the treasurer’s desk.

Nathan Davis $7.50 for 5 cords of wood for heating.  Presley Figgins,  $1.50 for assisting to bring J. W. Faye to jail and hire of 2 horses for the same.

J. C. McClellan was paid $8.25 for iron stove and pipe and other furniture for the jail    David P. Sturges, $22.65 for seats for court room and other repairs about the court house. Building of The Court House was completed in 1847.  I found this interesting as the needs now on  our courthouse are being discussed.

Dorothy Weber was hostess to Tuesday Coffee Club on September 4th .  Members gathered at The Pizza Ranch for a tasty lunch of salad, pizza, chicken and ice cream.

The menu offers something for everyone and a nice place to visit as well.  Nine members were in attendance for the meeting and a time of visiting.

One of our members just returned from a trip to Colorado to visit family and do some sight-seeing with wonderful weather while she was there.  Another just finishing a move to their new home told about all the beautiful up-dates and the good helpers they had to complete the move.

Pictures were shared of a recent high school graduation for a grand-daughter and her being a new student at UNI.  Along with all her studies she is newly elected to the Dance/Pom- Pom  group and will be performing at the UNI  football games and other events   through the college.

The next meeting will be held on September 18 with Bess Llewellyn as hostess.  Members are invited to  The Central Park Center on the square at 1 PM.
