The Rotary Club of Washington recently participated in a pilot project with World Bicycle Relief. WBR provides durable, heavy-duty bicycles for students in developing countries. WBR matched the Washington Rotary Club member’s individual purchase of bikes. Rotarians who purchased bicycles are: Ann Harris, Susan Wellington, Jim Gorham, Ray Poe, Becky Patterson, Myron Graber, Cheryl Kurtz, Bob Kennedy, Michelle Redlinger, Craig Davis, Paul Horak, Lynn Koch and Tsalika Rich.

In addition, several non-Rotarians purchased bicycles: Jim and Margaret Dunn, Federation Bank, Lois Bartelme and Norman Hansmeyer, Jamie Collier, Rick and Phyllis Hofer, Joe and Marde McConnell, Richard Gilmore and Robin Plattenberger, and Carl and Helen Dallmeyer. The 20 bicycles purchased through the Rotary Club will be matched by World Bicycle Relief, bringing a total of 40 bikes provided through this program. This and other Rotary projects help fulfill Rotary’s pledge of “Service Above Self.”
