Washington Police officers and firefighters who were on duty Wednesday evening commented several times on what a coincidence it was that they would be called to two incidents involving vehicles striking buildings within about half an hour of each other.

According to the Washington County call log, the first report came in at 7:57 p.m. at 325 E. Madison St. The initial report was that a car had crashed into the side of the house and that the vehicle’s doors were closed and locked and that no one was around the vheicle. There were also reports of smoke coming from under the car hood. Officers and the Washington Fire Department responded. The vehicle had crashed into a small children’s toy house and there was barely any damage to the car and no fire. Information was exchanged between the driver and the homeowner.

The second call came in at 8:29 p.m., when it was reported a vehicle had gone into the Hertz Farm Management building at 1621 E. Washington St. Officers resopnded. Michael Anthony Bear of Coralville was cited for reckless driving. The vehicle was towed. Over $1,500 damage was reported.
