W55 to be closed for bridge deck reconstruction

Mar 31, 2014

Washington County has a bridge deck reconstruction and replacement project planned on County Route W55 (Wayland Road) over Crooked Creek, approximately six miles south of Washington.

County Engineer Jacob Thorius said, "This work is necessary to prevent posting a weight restriction on the bridge, which would impact the ability to haul materials and goods to and from market."

Iowa Bridge & Culvert LC of Washington was awarded the project at a cost of $1,014,893, state and federal bridge dollars will be used to pay for the project.

Work on the bridge will begin on Monday, April 7. Traffic will be detoured using G62/320th Street and W47 (Coppock Road). Residents are advised to use the designated detour and to use caution while traveling on the detour. W55 will be closed to through traffic for the duration of the project, which is tentatively scheduled to be completed in early fall.

Any questions about the project should be directed to the Washington County Engineer's Office.
