Walnut Women’s Club meets

Aug 11, 2017

The Walnut Women’s Club held a tour to Salem on Sunday, Aug. 6. Attending were seven members of four of their husbands.

The group enjoyed the noon buffet at the Underground Railroad Restaurant and then toured the Lewelling Quaker Museum.

The home was built about 1840 by the Henderson Lewelling family and served as a station on the Underground Railroad during the abolition movement, helping many escaped slaves from the South seek freedom in Canada.

The hospitality and historic knowledge of the tour guides made it an informative and fun experience for all.

The club will meet again at 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 14 at Repurpose It, located in Carson Plumbing, for shopping and visiting stores around town.
