Wanted man turns himself in Thursday

A Kalona man wanted for first-degree theft reportedly turned himself in at the Washington County Jail Thursday afternoon.

The Washington County call log reports that John David Helmuth, 45, of Kalona, was arrested on a Washington County warrant for first-degree theft. Bond was set at $10,000.

Theft in the first degree is a class “C” felony punishable by a prison term of up to ten years and a fine of $1,000 to $10,000 for the theft of property exceeding one thousand dollars but not exceeding ten thousand dollars in value or theft of a motor vehicle.
