Wanting to be with Jesus

By Pastor Dean Elmore, Church of God | Jul 18, 2014

Praise the Lord, for He is risen and lives forever and will come again one of these days to take those who believe and put their trust in Him, to be with Him forever!

The Bible tells us of a time when Jesus went into the country of the Gadarenes and when He got out of the boat that brought him there, there was a man who met Jesus there, and this man was possessed by demons. This man was tormented by the demons and they caused him to go without clothes, nor did he live in a house. He was a terror to those around him and, although they tried to keep him bound up in chains and shackles and under guard to keep him from hurting himself and others, he would break the chains and the demons drove him into the wilderness. His life was one of misery, rejection, no hope, nothing but pain and misery. His life was a wreck. Then he met Jesus. Jesus, the all powerful, the loving Son of the Living God who commanded the demons to come out of him, and leave him alone, and as Jesus has power over all things, they had to leave him and his life was brought back to normal and right way of life. The Bible says, "The people went out to see what happened and came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had departed sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind." The wonder and beauty of God's love for each and every one of us.

Today there are many people who suffer from many different things, and while they are not necessarily demon-possessed, they are suffering from oppression, disappointments from and with life. They face frustrations and fears, rejection, no hope for tomorrow, and their lives are a mess. Homes are broken, families are torn apart, lives are ruined. They are missing the blessings of the abundant life that Jesus came that we might have and are looking at the other things and other ways to try to find peace within their souls or hearts and in the process they become victims to these things.

These things do not need to be because Jesus Christs is the same today as He was yesterday, and He will be that way forever. Just as that man who met Jesus, whose life was ruined and wasted without hope and only torment, found life and freedom and peace that he had not known before. Jesus can and will do the same for you, no matter where you are and no matter how bad the circumstances, He is able to give you life, give you hope and peace and joy in your heart far beyond that which we have longed for and really wanted — that inner yearning of the soul which we try to satisfy with outward things that never really satisfy. Jesus said, "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find that peace and joy that the man the Bible tells us about found. That man wanted to keep on going with Jesus and when you find the freedom from bondage and the joy that we can have in Him, you will want to be with Him also. Remember, Jesus does not show us the way, HE IS THE WAY.

Thank you and may you each one truly know His love.
