WELLMAN – The Washington boys track team joined 13 other full teams Tuesday, April 18, in the Mid-Prairie Hawk Co-Ed Relays. The Demons ended the day in seventh place.

Top finishes for the day came from Caleb Bex in the 110-meter hurdles, with a time of 15.15, finishing in second place.

The team of Bex, Mario Tapia, Cade Hennigan and Jake Reighard completed the 4x110-meter shuttle hurdles in 1:03.28 to take second place.

Coach Steve Roth said of the meet, “We had some good events, but the break hurt us a little bit.

“I thought last Thursday, we really ran well. I wasn’t as happy with the outcome tonight. We have some hand-off issues again, but it’s all fixable.”

Roth was pleased with some of the individual events.

“Caleb Bex did great in the highs,” he says. “The shuttle hurdles had a good finish as well. Mark Engelken’s finish is the discus was awesome.”

“We have a good shot of finishing in the top two or three at conference,” Roth says. “What I’m looking forward to is about a week and a half or two weeks of good workouts.

“We only have one meet this week and one next week, then two the last week. That’s perfect. We will have a couple good weeks of workouts and I’m looking forward to that.”

The biggest focus in the next couple of weeks is one thing, Roth says.

“Hand-offs! Over and over and over. We will spend a lot of time on those.

“We will also run some hills and work on some hurdles stuff. We have a lot of things we can fix and that’s what is good. We are in a fixable mood.”

The next meet for the boys is Monday, April 24, at Burlington.
