Washington downs Fort Madison

By Xiomara Levsen | Jan 03, 2018

The Washington girls’ basketball team would come away with a win against Fort Madison Tuesday night.

The final score of the game was 55-19.

Head coach Jordan Bentley said he was happy with the girls’ performance.

“We just played confident,” Bentley said. “I think that’s a lot of what it was. We were pretty confident out there and I didn’t see any shots I didn’t like.”

Kira Ropp had a good game, Bentley said. She would be the high scorer with 15 points — many of them due to her rebounding the ball.

“That’s where she kind of starts,” Bentley said. “We tell her to go out and get rebounds. Once you rebound the ball it’s going to put you in position to score, so I think she had a really good game.”

Morgan Brinning also had a good game scoring 12 points for Washington.

“She had condfidence in shooting the ball and played a lot of minutes defensively for us,” Bentley said.

Sarah Nacos would be the next high scorer for the team with nine points.

This puts Washington’s season at 4-7 and 1-2 in their conference.

“Which is good,” Bentley added. “We get a chance to play both the teams we lost to once in conference and play two other teams we haven’t played, so it keeps us right where we want to be in conference. We might be able to sneak out a win here and maybe win the conference — that was one of our goals.”

Washington’s next game will be at home Friday night against conference rivals Mount Pleasant.
