As the season progresses, the ease of shooting nine holes of golf increases. That was the case for the girls who played at the Washington Country Club’s course yesterday. The triangular between Washington, Columbus Community and Mid-Prairie featured some quality play.
The Demons won with their score of 192. In second place was Mid-Prairie at 213 and Columbus Community finished at 231.
Megan Buitendorp of Washington was the meet medalist with her nine-hole score of 42. Sarah Waite was close behind her at 45. Maddie Hora finished with a 51. Deanna Peiffer had a 54 at the close of play. Brenna Burlingame and Brenna Weidman both shot a 55.
Washington head coach Leonard Kull said “192 was outstanding for us. Maddie Hora had a 51 and that’s a career low for her. Both of the Brennas shot 55 and that is outstanding for them. We are confident and will continue to work on what we need to.”
For Mid-Prairie, Allyson Wertz set the pace with her 46. Cortney Cayton followed closely at 49. Mick Van Winkle finished at 58. Sydney Scarff shot a 60. Laura Yoder closed play at 61 and Abby Pickard registered a 69.
“We haven’t played in almost a week and shot 213, so I’m happy with that. I think these greens were faster than we are used to, but I think we can fix that going forward,” Mid-Prairie head coach Trace McArtor stated.
Kortney Orr led the Wildcats with her 50. Lizzie Duncan was next at 57. Sarah Todd shot a 61. Emily Duncan had 63. Marissa Hafner finished at 69 and Grace Chapman finished the scoring with a 71.
“It’s been a week since we’ve played. It’s been a struggle to get any volume of holes in, but that’s  the deal when you play golf in the spring,” Columbus Community head coach Tony Simmons commented.
The Wildcats will play again on Friday, April 25 at Wapello. The Golden Hawks host Regina on Monday, April 21. The Demons play again on Monday as well, at Mt. Pleasant.
