Bea Haberman is proud to announce the birth of a great-granddaughter on Jan. 17. Maxine Rae is the daughter of Andrea and Damon Costella of San Luis Obispo, Calif. Patti and John Stoner of Aurora, Ill., are Maxine’s maternal grandparents.

The Wayland Lions Club met Jan. 15, at the Wayland Community Center. President Jay Meyer called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Robert Meyer offered the invocation which was followed by a delicious meal served by Alice Hostetler. Eleven members were present.

Minutes of the previous meetings were approved and the treasurer’s report approved. It was noted that the semiannual dues for Lions International were due.

Membership Chairman Brian Pattyson referred to his handout on acquisition of new members and reflected on the various projects and programs Lions participate in throughout the year and noted how the membership assists in meeting the needs of the community.

A Club Sponsor Night was discussed with the possibility of occasional “open meetings” with a guest speaker of interest.

Special guest speaker was Lions trustee Nancy Slack of the Iowa Lions Foundation. Nancy discussed several important Lions projects; including Iowa KidSight, Hearing Aid Bank, Eye Bank, Cochlear Implant Hearing, Leader Dog Program and its “Puppy Training.”

The Wayland Lions will meet again on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at the Wayland Community Center. Individuals interested in attending, may call Brian Pattyson at 319-256-4346. Guest speaker for the February meeting will be Amy Martin, RN and certified diabetic educator. Amy works for Washington County Hospital as their diabetes and chronic disease coordinator which includes arthritis.
