WHS cross-country runs well at IMS

Oct 04, 2017

1) How did the junior varsity/varsity teams do last night?

The teams ran well last night. It was a tough course and a lot of good competition. Everyone is still running quicker than they were last year so I know we are still moving in the right direction. Brennan, Evan and Brooke all came home with medals last night. They all ran smart races by getting out and staying close to that lead pack. Evan was just a few step behind Brennan the whole race until Brennan pulled away a little the last 200 meters. Brooke continues to work hard and improve every meet. Her goal was to medal last night as she has never been able to medal at this meet and last night she left it all out there and was able to accomplish her goal.

Bailey Bryant had a great race on the JV side last night, she ended up finishing second. She was 10th half way through and seemed to really pick up her pace the second half of the race and pass several runners. She had her best times of the season, and was one of our top runners overall. She still looked strong as she finished and I expect her to continue to improve these last few meets.

2) What were some of the difficulties on the course if any?

It was hilly, hot and humid so all of those factored into the difficultly of the meet last night.

3) Who stepped up at the meet last night?

Bailey, Brooke, Brennan and Evan (which I already mentioned)

Ashley is continuing to improve and was our No. 2 runner most of the race until a late surge by Molly who is still recovering from strep throat. Molly wasn’t feeling the best but she was able to come out and run a gutsy performance last night. It will be nice to have a break before the Conference meet to allow her time to get better.

Blake is continuing his strong season by running 2 minutes faster than last year on the same course. Jacob continues to run strong and stay close to Evan and Brennan. I also thought Kiowa had one of his better races last night.

4) We are in the first week of October now. How many races are there left? When are districts and state?

Our season is coming to a close quickly. We have Conference next Thursday and Districts the following Thursday. State is Oct. 28th
