William Young

William “Bill” Young, 57, of Iowa City, died Monday, June 19, 2017, in Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a lengthy illness.

Visitation will begin at noon, Friday, June 23, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington, where the family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Burial will be private. A memorial has been established for the American Diabetes Association.

Mr. Young was born July 14, 1959, in Mount Pleasant, the son of Herbert William and Josephine (Dunbar) Young.

He graduated from Washington High School. He worked as a housekeeper at the University of Iowa for the past 12 years. He had previously worked for the railroad, was a truck driver and had worked for Crane Valves in Washington. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, fish fries, barbecues, and farmers markets. He loved the outdoors and spending time with his great-nephews.

Surviving are six siblings, Margaret Finley of Mount Pleasant, Dennis Young of North English, Delrene Harris and husband Craig of Iowa City, Desmond Young and wife Dee of Mount Pleasant, Jody Scott of Washington, and Lance Young of Washington; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Almond Finley.
