Wine and food pairings enjoyed by residents

Halcyon House News

Dan Drost, representing the Reformed Presbyterian Church, led the weekly service with Halcyon House residents. The service included Scripture from 2 Chronicles 6:12-42.

In the last week over 20 residents enjoyed a “Wine & Food Pairing” presented by Melissa Boncher, Hy-Vee Dietitian. Melissa provided delicious hors d’oeuvres and the Applewood Bistro provided an assortment of fine wines. Residents and community members appreciated learning which wines to pair with the appropriate food items.

Wellness Department Director, Becky Carter, took residents shopping on Tuesday to the Coralville Mall with a stop at the Dairy Mart on the way home. Audrey Goldsmith, Erma Ropp, Karen McCreedy, Dolores Wood and Marcella Reed enjoyed a leisurely afternoon of shopping.

Halcyon House residents recently joined forces with team members and the two daughters (Veta Thode and Jean Knowles) of the late Reta Beemblossom. The Beemblossom Backpack Benefit project was born. Reta Beemblossom anonymously gave 30 backpacks to elementary age children for the last several years. We want to carry on her legacy by continuing to provide backpacks for children in need.  If interested in contributing, you may donate a backpack, school supplies or make a monetary donation.  Supplies may be dropped off at Halcyon House’s front office, the Applewood Bistro, or Lending Hands and checks for monetary donations may be made to Halcyon House and designated for the “Backpack Project.”

Happy Birthday wishes go out this week to Anna Hysell, Lea Smothers, and Virginia Tschantz.
