Fourteen students from Washington High School were recognized at the Youth Salute Program Awards ceremony on Sept. 8, at the Englert Theatre in Iowa City. They were selected on the basis of leadership, academics and community service.

Students from 15 area school districts were awarded a certificate by Dwight Seegmiller, Hills Bank president and CEO. Each student was given a book written by guest speaker Josh Sundquist, a best-selling author, speaker and an Olympic paralympic ski racer.

Ty Stender, son of Steve and Kathy Stender, was awarded a $100 scholarship after an interview process.

The National Council on Youth Leadership is guided by the vision of making tomorrow's world better by developing leaders today. The mission is to assist communities to applaud, encourage and provide opportunity for the leadership development of their youth.
